Looking Forward

New Year’s Eve has always been one of my least favored days of the year. I think its forced retrospective nature leaves me feeling melancholy. I don’t mind New Year’s Day, however; it brings out my natural inclination to plan, especially for travel.

This is the first year in several that I don’t have any trips planned. And due to economic circumstances, international travel may have to wait until 2010. The apparent characteristics of 2009 may require a more creative approach to getting away. I’m sure there will be quite a few trips to the wine country. I’ve never been to New Mexico. Or Maine. Or Miami. New Orleans is on every year’s list as a possible destination. Maybe a trip to New York in the spring. Or Chicago in the fall. And then there’s the much-anticipated holiday travel (I already have our hotel reservation for Thanksgiving in New York).

What have I missed? Where are you going this year?

  1. You already have Thanksgiving 2009 planned for New York? I will *not* miss it this year. I am putting in in my calendar now.

I *so* know what you mean re: not being able to plan for 2009 travel, in general. It makes me sad. I know, it sounds snobby — i.e., we should all be lucky just to have a place to live in this economy. But the fact is, travel *does* feel like food, shelter, essentials — to me. And for sure, to enthusiasts such as yourself as well.

It *is* enlivening, educational, stimulating, and nourishing. And so I hope things will turn around, and, meantime, will “travel” around town, exploring new things, graciously introducing myself to new situations, as best and appreciatively as I can. One doesn’t *always* have to travel far to be a traveller. It’s just nice to have that option!

Question: How can I be alerted when you have another blog entry? Is there a way to “subscribe” to your blog. Sorry if it’s somewhere here and it missed my perusal. ??? Thanks much, A
