Why Blog About Art? Part II

In terms of public perception, I think art is where wine was about 30 years ago. Thanks to better wine education (including good wine blogs), wine has become largely de-mystified in the same way that I hope art will be. But, currently, too few people are involved in the conversation around art and no one is allowed to ask the most important question of all: what is art? And what makes a work of art “good”?

Enjoying both art and wine are basically sensuous experiences that don’t need to be over intellectualized. If you want to go deeper (and this most certainly can be gratifying and lead to a fuller appreciation of a work), knowing some history and having some familiarity with the vocabulary art is helpful. But you never have to go past turning your brain off and allowing your senses to take over. Give it a try!
